Makerspaces with a lathe
38 makerspaces and community woodshops in 36 cities list a lathe members can use. Most ask for a safety class or a check-out before you use it. Seven offer a day pass.
What a makerspace membership costs
At half of the 24 shops that publish a monthly price, a membership costs $60 a month or less. Published prices run from $15 at Port City Makerspace to $420 at Maketory.
Training before you use the lathe
26 of the 38 shops say what comes before you use their machines: 14 a safety class or orientation, eight a tool test or check-out, two woodworking experience and two a tour or a waitlist. Each shop's page quotes its own rule.
